This tutorial is inspired by Tippi's make-up in Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds. The make-up changes subtly throughout the movie, which as I say in the video, may have been deliberate but may also have been a result of the Techicolour film, lighting etc.
For The Birds and Marnie (Hitchcock's second an last fim with Hedren), Hitchcock dictated every aspect of Tippi's look on and off screen. Hitchcocks vision was meticulously carried out by legendary costume designer Edith Head, Howard Smit on Make-up and Hairdresser Virginia Darcy.

It's a great ‘vintage-chic' look for a party! X
This look can be re-created using any brands of make-up you currently own.

I can’t guarantee that all of the make-up and skincare products I recommend will suit you. I only use products I personally think are good having tried them on myself and my clients but everyone's skin is different and it's possible to be allergic to anything. Wherever possible, test products out on yourself before purchasing.

I only feature products I like, or want to try. The products I use in these videos are either purchased by me or sent to me by make-up companies to use in my professional capacity as a make-up artist for fashion and celebrity photo shoots, red carpet etc. I am also sent products by many of the top magazines to judge for awards.

I do not accept payment and am not sponsored to make any of the films on this channel. Some of the links under the videos and blog posts on my site are affiliated however and as stated before, I only feature products I like, or want to try.

  1. You are such a class act Lisa. I live in SF and am Hitchcock obsessed and was just re watching The Birds filmed in near by Bodega Bay. I was so inspired by Tippy Hendren's look in the film I wanted to recreate the looks and outfits. What wonderfully timed inspiration you've provided! Thank you for endlessly and chic tastes and talent!

  2. Exquisitely done, Lisa! You are so wonderfully talented!
It would also be lovely to see the makeup that was on Kim Novak in Vertigo! It was so pretty!
Thank you for everything you do for all of us, Lisa!

  3. I've watched a bunch of your starlet videos, and they are all fabulous. I love old movies, and the actresses were truly lovely to watch. One of my favorite ladies is Natalie Wood, so I was wondering if you might consider doing a video of her look. I just think she was such a wonderful actress, and was one of the few child actresses who really stuck and stayed through when she matured.
